May 30

Another homecoming is looming ahead for Leslie.... FRIDAY! Yesterday I spent several hours with her and she is doing very well! Her walking is improving and she is able to put on and take off her brace without help. She is a wee bit nervous about coming home which is normal but I think she will do very well. As you can imagine the mental challenges as well as the physical challenges are huge but I have confidence "The Miracle Woman" will overcome them. Keep praying and encouraging her!

May 22 A Good Day!

Dear Leslie-lovers, I had the honor of being with Leslie today and she was amazing. After arriving at St. Mary's on Friday and being out of it for a couple days she is getting less medication and doing much better. She walked quite a bit today and was able to accomplish her therapies with flying colors. Tomorrow the team meets to discuss how long it will take Leslie to finish adequate rehab and be discharged home. I am very pleased with St. Mary's rehab personnel and it only took me 30 minutes from Leslie and Ray's home in Berkeley. (and we even hit traffic crossing the bridge) So don't be shy - go and visit her. I do think the late afternoons/early evenings are best because she is kept fairly busy all day with various therapies. Ray is going out of town Saturday for a week, so it will be important to have some other visitors. Please give me a call so we can spread you out over the week. Thanks. Don't forget to keep praying too. My number is 209 712 1729.

May 18 a new home in the city

Wel,l Herrick was full and did not work out so Leslie has moved to St. Mary's Hospital for her rehabilitation process.
450 Stanyan Street
San Francisco, CA 94117
415-668-1000
Her room is 457 which is our childhood street address in Altadena:)
I know for many of you a trip to the city is hard, so we are trying to coordinate visits so there will be at least one visitor each evening. Could you call me and "sign up" for a day? My numer is 209 712-1729. Pray for her physically and mentally. this is a BIG challenge for her to get up and moving and requires a determination she needs to reach on her own, with some gentle nudging. Thanks. Jamie

a new home, sort of

Yesterday I had the joy of spending the day with Leslie and watching her get out of bed FOUR times and walk from her bed to the door and about six feet down the hall. She needs a great deal of encouragement since her strength is dimished by beng in bed so much. But she is doing it! Wow! The doctor took out the staples today and tomorrow she is moving to Herrick Rehabilitation Hospital in Berkeley. That is where she was before, so many of the staff know her and can continue to help her mobilize her body. The dostor said 5-7 more weeks of wearing the brace. :( He will do serial x-rays to deermine the extent of the healing and fusion in the vertebrae. I know visits and calls are welcome. Join the cheerleading fan club for Leslie as we help her through this next phase.

Happy Mother's Day

For all you mothers, I hope today was a day to count your blessings and appreciate the wonder of being a mom. We all know Leslie is a wonderful mom and how hard it must be to be in laying a bed, unable to take care of yourself much less your family. Leslie is struggling with pain and with motivational issues. It is hard for us on the outside looking on to really know what is happening with Leslie, but we can all be encouraging and positive to her. She is struggling with getting up and walking and that is very important for her to do. Please pray for her physical strength and emotional strength.

May 9

Leslie finally moved into a room today, 818. It is in the step down unit and hopefully she will move to a private room on the floor soon. She is experiencing agreat deal of pain from the surgery, not unexpected but very unpleasant as you can imagine. Please pray for her: pain issues, anxiety issues, ability to get up and mobilize which is very important in spite of the pain. None of us really can know what she is going through. Let us continue to bathe her in love and prayers. Thanks

May 8 she is okay!

Leslie, "the strong woman" ( according to the dr.) survived her surgery and is doing well. Of course she is having a great deal of pain from the procedure, but everything went well and she is alert and stable and waiting for an ICU room to open up. She is going to ICU just because of the length of the surgery (6 hours), but the surgeon is pleased with the outcome. Now we need to pray for strength for her to get up tomorrow and start moving. The dr. said that would be the "cure" for her pain from the surgery, since most of the pain is related to the manipulation of the muscles during the surgery and they respond by spasming. Good news is the dr. said she would only have one more month with the brace. Yeah! More manana.

tomorrow is the day

Dear lovers of Leslie, tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. Leslie will begin undergoing an 8 hour back surgery. Please pray for the surgery, the surgeons, recovery and of course Leslie as she endures this difficult day. May her recovery be painless and swift. We love you all. Will update tomorrow night.
